Off The Wall and Onto the Stage: Dancing The Art of Jonathan Green

In celebration of the SSCAC's 70th Anniversary, we are bringing you Off The Wall & Onto The Stage: Dancing The Art of Jonathan Green.

Funds raised from this event will continue the Center's efforts in seeking out and teaching individuals and young artists; provide gallery space to exhibit the works of artists for the community's viewership; develop a body of collectors of African American art; and serve as a reference for African American artists throughout the greater Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding communities.

Columbia, South Carolina’s most critically acclaimed Off the Wall & Onto the Stage: Dancing the Art of Jonathan Green, performed by the Columbia City Ballet, comes to Chicago on February 27, 2010 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance. The ballet, called “…ingenious…” and “…fabulous…” by The New York Times, uses William Starrett’s choreography to bring twenty - two paintings by internationally recognized artist Jonathan Green to life on the stage. It is art rooted in the Gullah heritage, a heritage wrapped in themes of family and community, personal identity and expression, race and culture.
